HKSGS NEWSLETTER June 2025

https://hksgs.com.hk/newsletter/june-2025

Introduction.

The purpose of this newsletter is to update you on a few agenda items that have come up in committee, and remind old and new members to look out for upcoming fixtures on the Society site which is at www.hksgs.com.hk.

AGM 29th September 2025.

Top billing is the AGM now set for late September. For various reasons we have had to postpone this year's AGM but now have a firm date in September. This will be a Greensomes, shotgun start on the lines of our previous AGMs. This has always been a fun and challenging day, and thus has been well attended. It's a fun day of golf but the prizegiving, banter and excellent curry and/or lubrication are also a draw. Please book early as participation in the golf is limited while the meal and the AGM are open to allcomers spouses, potential members and guests.

Society Shirts.

The word on the street is that our bespoke, tailored, sartorially outstanding Society Shirts are just around the corner. Soon, very soon, the latest Society strip will be revealed. Obviously still under raps for commercial reasons we have already given Apple the release date as they did ask us so as not clash with their product announcement. Even Donald Trump has sent in his measurements and "very powerfully" reserved two "bigly" ones!

Tee box Option.

A number of members have pointed out that they would like the option to choose their Tee Box on the day. This requires some mathematical skills and adjustment of handicaps but Mike Edie has incorporated this option which is clearly pointed out in the scorecards. Handicaps specific to each player per tee box are now printed on the card when available. Members must select the tee box they wish to play at the start of their round. Please ensure you circle the tee box being played on the scorecard and please don't change tee box during the round. Depending on the course it can make a difference of two or three shots.

Bookings remain on a first come first served.

All booking restrictions have been removed for some time now but we would like to direct new members to the procedure which is detailed at https://hksgs.com.hk/rules-guidelines. All bookings can and should be done thru the Society site. You will be prompted to book for an event via e-mail, usually two weeks in advance. Bookings are managed by the event manager on a first come first served basis. Please note all bookings are made and amended via the site where members can always check the status of their booking and see who else has signed up for an event. If members wish to play with somebody specifically they can annotate their booking accordingly, and the Event Manager will endeavor, but not guarantee, to pair flights according.

Fixtures 2025.

The fixtures schedule is posted on the Society site at https://hksgs.com.hk/fixtures. Previously we were able to show the full year of fixtures but now most clubs do not confirm booking beyond three months in advance. We will continue to have the same number of fixtures as per previous years and usually book events on Monday. China trips are also included on the Fixture list.

Committee "Same Same - ish".

The committee remains largely unchanged. Steve Knight who had a long spell as secretary has surrendered this responsibility but fortunately remains an active voting member of the committee. Clive Hunter, recovering from appendage operations has relinquished the Captaincy and his place on the committee. There is still an empty, without portfolio, seat on the committee. If there is anybody in the Society who would like to join this august group, ..."this happy breed of men"... please do speak to any of the Committee members or the Event Manager Mike Edie. BTW The Committee members and their roles are listed on the front page of the site at https://hksgs.com.hk/about-hksgs.

Overseas Trips.

We have recently had several well attended and successful trips into China. Nan Sha and Phoenix Hill are nearby, and we will continue to "go over there" more regularly particularly as more members get their MTP, Mainland Travel Permit. Keep and eye out on the Fixture List for these one day or overnight events. We would like to also go "furtherafield"", (soon to be one word). If there is anybody who would like to act as "tour guide" and take the lead on an extended overseas tour, perhaps to Chang Mai, please do let us know.

Managing your Sign Ups.

Members are to be reminded to manage their signup online up until the sign up close date.

Online Sign Up - Opens 30 days before the event, sign up online using your registered email address with HKSGS.

Online Cancellation - Whilst the online sign up is still available, log back into the event sign up using your email address, under your name, click the checkbox "Cancel my Entry", submit your change.

Late Cancellation - Penalty - Once the online signup has closed, contact the Event Manager. Any cancellations after the sign up is closed will incur a HK$200 cancellation fee or the full event fee dependent on venue. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event will be subject to the full fee.

GHIN Membership.

By now all members should have their 2025 GHIN membership card. All Society results will be posted by Mike Edie on your behalf to GHIN. It is important to keep your handicap up to date to assist Mike Edie when he makes the tee schedule. Please post your own non-Society game results to your GHIN handicap using the app. It also ensures you are given a fair handicap and that each flight has balanced abilities.

Conclusion.

Your committee wish you well for a good summer of golf but particularly hope to see you at the AGM day in September.
